July 19, 2025 – High St and the Auburn Trail or Seneca Trail and Auburn Trail

TRAIL OPTION – Head towards the mall on Rt. 96. Turn left on Moseley, then immediate right on Lasalle Parkway. At the end, pick up the Seneca Trail, which runs behind the Michaels Plaza. Cross over Turk Hill and continue on the Seneca Trail under the power line. Follow this into the woods on the right near the top of the hill. Cross over High Pointe and you will come out near Valentown Hall. Cross over High St and continue on the Seneca Trail to the left of the Restaurants. This trail will follow along 96 then go behind the Walmart Plaza, and come out on Willowbrook. Turn right, go under the bridges, then climb over the guard rail to continue on the Seneca Trail. Follow the trail into Ambush Valley, where General Denonville with around 3000 troops was attacked by Seneca Indians in 1687. Continue on the trail – you will come out on 96 across from Rt. 251. Take 251, then turn right on a blue trail, just before you get to the Auburn Trail. Follow the blue trail over to the Lehigh Trail – turn right on the Lehigh Trail, cross over the Auburn Trail, then take the ramp on the right down to the Auburn Trail. Turn left on the Auburn Trail – follow this to Fishers Rd. Turn right on Fishers Rd, then left on 96 and return to the parking lot. My best estimate is the trail route is 12.3 miles

ROAD OPTIONS

For 9.4 miles – Left out of the parking lot, run up 96 to the mall. Turn left onto High St. Right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, right on 96, then left on Benson. Turn right on Fishers Rd then left on 96 and return to the parking lot.

July 12, 2025– Springhouse Run

Head out the canal towards Pittsford. In the village, go past the railroad trestle and turn right into the Town Highway Department drive. Pick up the trail on the left that will connect over to the Auburn Trail. Cross over French and follow the trail until you are across the street from the Springhouse Commons. Cross over 31 and pick up the old Erie Canal Trail that runs behind Wegmans. Follow this back across French Rd and connect back with the Barge Canal, and follow the canal all the way back to the Basin. Distance is 11.6 miles.

For around 8 miles, on the Auburn Trail take the nature trail option on the left shortly after you get on the Auburn Trail. The nature trail will take you back to the canal

For 14.8 miles, follow the standard route. When the Old Erie Canal reconnects with the Barge Canal, turn right and run over to the JCC. Turn around and run all the way back to the basin along the towpath.

July 5, 2025 – Truckin’ on Turk

Turn left out of the parking lot and head up towards the mall. Turn left on Turk Hill Rd, and take Turk Hill all the way to the canal, turn left. Follow the canal back to the basin

June 28, 2025 – Cartersville Trail and Auburn Trail

All routes – Turn right out of the parking lot and run 96 towards the Basin. Pick up the Cartersville trail on the right, between Marsh Road and the Marathon gas station, Stay on the trail until you are almost across from Knickerbocker. Cross over 96 and get on the Auburn Trail from the parking area.  Cross over Mill Rd, and then cross over Thornell to stay on the Auburn Trail – this will bring you to a driveway that leads to East St. Cross over East St and stay on the Auburn Trail, picking up the trail behind the power substation. Cross over Railroad Mills to stay on Auburn Trail

For 7.8 miles – turn left Woolston, then left on Corduroy. Turn right on Park Rd, then left on 96 and return to the parking lot

Cross over the Thruway, then turn right on Canfield. Turn right on Pittsford Mendon Center Rd. Turn right on Barker, then right on W. Bloomfield. Turn left on Thornell and take this all the way back to the basin. Turn right on 96 and back to the parking lot. Distance is 11.9 miles.

June 14, 2025 – The Fishers Run

The traditional Fishers Run, from the parking lot is 9.5 miles – Turn left onto 96, right on Park Rd. Turn left on Corduroy, and then left on Woolston. Turn right on Fishers Rd, then left on Main St. Fishers. Turn left on Log Cabin, then right on Lower Fishers, and then left on Benson. Turn right on Fishers Rd, then return thru Powder Mills Park (left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd) Turn left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

Notes:

You can skip Lower Fishers by staying on Log Cabin. This shortens any route by 1 mile.

June 7, 2025 – Mostly Moseley

I will not be there this week so you will have to start yourselves!

Head out the canal towards Fairport. Exit the canal at Perinton Park – turn left off the canal on to O’Connor. Turn right on Whitney, and then right on N. Main St. Yes, the bridge over Thomas Creek is out and traffic cannot pass. However a pedestrian walkway does exist on the left side of Main St – follow the signs – it will take you very close to the buildings along that stretch. Careful crossing over the railroad tracks! N. Main St changes names to S. Main St, and then changes again to Moseley. Take Moseley all the way to the end. Turn right on Rt. 96 and head back to the basin. Distance is 12.1 miles.

You can cut the distance to 10.7 miles if on Moseley you turn right on Garnsey and then right on 96.

You can cut the distance to 9.7 miles if you skip O’Connor and stay on the canal to Main St, and then take the Garnsey option.

May 31, 2025 – Into and Around Pittsford

Head out the canal towards Pittsford.

Take the trail around the soccer fields, which will bring you back to the canal.

Then take the Auburn trail on the right just past the flood control gate.

Cross over Mitchell, then cross over Rt. 31.

Turn right on the sidewalk trail that parallels Rt. 31.

Turn left onto Marsh, then a left onto the old Trolley Trail.

Follow the Trolley Trail thru the Highlands at Pittsford and come out back to 31.

Turn right on 31, then right onto the canal at Schoen Place.

Turn right on 96/N. Main St, then right on Washington.

Turn left on Cranswick Lane.

Bear left to stay on Cranswick, passing by Landsdown Lane.

You will come up on Landsdown Lane a second time – cross over to pick up the Wynd Woods Trail, almost straight across from Cranswick on Landsdowne Lane (a little to the right)

Take the trail over to St. John Fisher taking right options.

Turn around and continue to take right options to get back out on a slightly different path – return to Landsdowne Lane – and take a right.

Turn left on 96, then turn left onto the canal at Schoen Place and return to the parking lot.

Consider turning left under the power line to return along the Auburn Trail and also consider another trip on the trails around the soccer fields

If you cut out the loop around Highlands by turning left on 31 as you come out from the Auburn trail, you will shorten the distance by 1.5 miles.

If you cut out the loop starting at Schoen Place, you will shorten the route by 2.5 miles.

You can add distance by heading west on the canal when you return from the Wynd Woods loop. Clover is 1.5 miles from Schoen Place, so plan accordingly.

May 24, 2025 – Smith and West Bloomfield

All Routes – turn left out of the parking lot. Turn right on Fishers Rd. Turn right on Railroad Mills. Go straight to continue on Probst. Turn left on Mile Square

For 9.5 miles- turn right on Cole Rd, then right on Pittsford-Mendon Rd. Turn right on Hedgewood, Take the nature trail on the left to Wren Field, turn left and pick up the nature trail over to Van Voorhees. Turn right on Van Voorhees, then left on East. Turn right on Park Rd, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

All routes – turn left out of the parking lot and head up 96 to the Mall. Turn left onto High St Extension and then left onto High St.

For 12.1 miles – from High St, turn left on Gillis, then left on Cobble Creek Rd. Take the first two right turns to continue on Cobble Creek Rd. Turn left on Egypt Victor Rd, then left on Valentown. Turn right to head up Baker, then left on Steele. Cross over Turk Hill and continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, then left on Garnsey. Turn right on 96 and return to the parking lot.
