April 30, 2016 – Seneca Trail in Victor to Fairport Reservoir

This week the main route will start in Victor!  Meet at the parking lot behind Mickey Finn’s in Victor.  From the basin – take 96 into Victor and turn right on Maple (Rt. 444).  Just before going up the hill as you are leaving the village, turn left onto Railroad St and park the car.

The route goes back out to Maple and onto Dryer.  The trail begins on the left – it is marked with Red markers.  This trail will take you thru the grounds of Ganondagon, and will take you out to School Rd.  Turn left on School then a right on Boughton Hill Rd followed by a quick left into a driveway – look for trail markers.  Then continue to follow the red markers all the way to the Fairport Reservoir and to Boughton Rd.  Turn around and re-trace your steps back to the car – distance is around 12-13 miles.

There are other trail options – at School St, you can just cross over and continue over to Fort Hill and then continue to follow the trail over to the Dryer Rd Bike Trail park.

For Road Routes from the Park and Ride — Knickerbocker Hill Route

Turn left out of the Park & Ride – turn right on Park Rd.  Take Park Rd over to East – turn right, then left on Thornell.  Turn right on Mill Rd, then left on East.  Turn left on 96, then left on Knickerbocker.  Take a right on Mendon Rd, then go straight to continue on Stone.  Follow Stone to Clover, turn right, then turn right onto the canal.  Take the canal back to the basin.  Distance is 13.5 miles.

Shortcuts – from Stone – turn right on Tobey to Clover –return as above – 13.0 miles

11 mile route – From Mendon Rd – turn right on S.Main St – follow this over to the canal – follow the canal back – 11 miles.

8 mile route – start the route. Stay on 96 past Knickerbocker, then turn right on Mitchell. Cross over the canal and turn right on the old train bed. Follow the canal back to the basin

Turn left out of the parking lot and then turn left on Garnsey. Take the first left, Sully’s Trail over to Kreag. Turn right on Kreag, then turn into the church parking lot and pickup the orange trail in the back corner of the lot. Run the Crescent Trail over to Garnsey, then continue on the trail up to Woodcliff. You can either turn around and return to Garnsey or continue on as far as you want.

For those not wanting trails….

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn left onto Garnsey.  Right on Turk, then left on Steele.  Turn right at the top of Steele and head down Baker.  Turn right on Valentown, then at High St, turn left (yes – turn left).  Turn right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, then right on 96 followed by a left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.  Distance is 12.2 miles.

For Trails – turn left out of the parking lot and head towards the mall. At Moseley, turn left and take the immediate right on LaSalle.  Pick up the Seneca Trail at the end of LaSalle. Trail runs behind Bed Bath and Beyond, crosses over Turk Hill, then follows the power line. Near the top of the hill, the trail heads off to the right. Trail crosses over High Point Drive and then down to Valentown Museum. Cross over High Street and pick up the trail opposite Valentown. Trail will lead behind Walmart, then over to Willoughbrook. Turn right on Willowbrook, then after you pass thru the tunnels, turn right to continue on the Seneca Trail.  Follow the trail thru Ambush Valley. Trail will lead you to 96 across from Rt. 251. Cross over 96 and head down Rt. 251.  Pick up the blue trail (old trolley trail) on the right just before you get to the Auburn trail (like 20 yards or so).  Follow the blue trail to the Lehigh Trail. Turn left on the Lehigh Trail, then take the ramp down to the Auburn Trail. Turn left on the Auburn trail and follow this to Powder Mills Park. Turn right on Woolston, left on Corduroy, right on Park, then left on 96 to return to the parking lot. Distance is 13.3 miles.

For 9.4 miles – Left out of the parking lot, run up 96 to the mall. Turn left onto High St. Right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, right on 96, then left on Benson. Turn right on Fishers Rd then left on 96 and return to the parking lot.

11.3 miles – Left out of the parking lot, run up 96 to the mall. Turn left onto High St. Right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, cross over 96 and continue on Main St. Fishers. Right on Auburn Trail and follow this to Powder Mills Park. Turn right on Woolston, left on Corduroy, right on Park, then left on 96 to return to the parking lot.

For 12.6 – on High St, continue past Willowbrook, then right on Lane. Turn right on 96 then left on 251. Right on Auburn Trail and follow this to Powder Mills Park. Turn right on Woolston, left on Corduroy, right on Park, then left on 96 to return to the parking lot.

For Trails

Turn left out of the parking lot, turn left onto Garnsey. Turn left on Turk Hill, then turn right on 31. Turn right into the parking lot for the Indian Hill section of the Crescent Trail. Take the trails over to SCR Lane, then turn right on Steele. Cross over Turk Hill and continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, then right on Vineyard Hill. Take a left on Garnsey, right on 96 and return to the parking lot. About 9.5 miles.

Road Options

For 10 miles – start with the main route. Go past the parking lot for Indian Hill on 31 and turn right on Thayer. At Bluhm turn right to continue on Thayer. Turn right on Steele, and rejoin the main route.

For 11.7 miles – start with the main route. Stay on Turk Hill past 31, then turn right on Ayrault. Turn right on the Perinton Bike Hike Way. Take this over to Mason. Turn right, then right on 31. Turn left on Thayer and rejoin the 10 mile option.

For 15.2 miles – follow the 11.7 mile option. When you return to 96, turn left, then take a right on Park Rd. Turn right on East, right on Thornell and then right on 96 and return to the parking lot.

This week we will run the new Freezeroo course.

From the parking lot, turn left onto 96, then turn right on Park Rd. Turn left on Corduroy, then right on Woolston. Turn right on Railroad Mills, then turn left on Old Forge Lane. Take the first left onto Deer Creek Rd.  This will loop around and back to Old Forge. Turn right on Old Forge Lane, bringing you back to the first intersection. Take the other direction on Deer Creek by turning left.  Deer Creek will change names to Wandering Trail. Follow this to the end and turn around in the cul-de-sac. Retrace your route back to Old Forge Lane, turn left and back to Railroad Mills. Turn left, then take a left onto Sturbridge Lane. Take the next left onto Fall Meadow. Take this upto East, then turn around and return all the way to Railroad Mills. Turn left on Railroad Mills, then right on Park Rd. Return to 96, turn left and return to the parking lot. Distance is 8.6 miles.

For 11.5 miles – add a loop. When on Park Rd the second time heading from Railroad Mills towards 96 – turn right on Corduroy, right on Woolston, right on Railroads Mills and right on Park Road, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

For 13 miles – follow the 11.5 mile route until you get to Woolston/Railroad Mills. Turn left on Railroad Mills, and then at Probst turn left to continue on Railroad Mills. Turn left on Fishers Rd, left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd., left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

TRAIL OPTION – Pick the trails in Powder Mill Park and run the trails until you are half tired, turn around and return to the start.

Head out the canal towards Pittsford. Take a right on the connector trail that will take you to Marsh Rd. Cross over Rt. 31, then take a left on the old Trolley Trail. Run thru the Senior Citizen Complex, the trail will take you to 31. Turn right on 31, then right on Schoen Place and continue on the canal. After crossing under the railroad trestle, turn right onto the Pittsford Town Highway road, then take the trail on the left that will lead you over to the old train bed. Follow the train bed over French Rd, and hop off the trail when you are across from Springhouse Commons. Pick up the old Erie Canal trail in the back of the parking lot, and follow this trail back across French Rd, and then connect back with the Barge Canal. Follow the canal back towards the basin. When you get to the power lines past Pittsford, turn left under the power lines, then turn right on the Auburn Train and follow this back to the canal. Return to the basin. Distance is 12.4 miles.

(By-passing the Marsh Rd option and the Power line option reduces the overall distance to 11.7 miles)

For 15.6 miles – when you get back to the Barge Canal from the old Erie Canal trail, turn right and follow the canal out to Edgewood. Turn around at Edgewood and head back following the main route.

For 8 miles – follow the main route, turn around at the railroad trestle, follow the main route return path.

For 10 miles – follow the main route to the first crossing of French Rd, turn around and return to the canal and follow the main route back

For 11.5 miles – follow the main route to the first crossing of French Rd, turn left on French Rd, crossover 31 and then turn left onto the old Erie Canal Trail, rejoining the main route.

Trails and Roads –  head out the canal towards Fairport.  Exit onto Ayrault and head east.  Turn right on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  Cross over Hogan, then turn left on Mason.  Pick up the orange trail on the right just before the creek.  Follow the orange trail over to Broadmoor.  Turn left on Broadmoor, then turn right to get back on the orange trail.  Follow orange between the ponds, then bear to the right to follow orange over to Aldrich.  Turn right on Aldrich, then left into the White Brook Nature Center.  Turn left in the parking lot to continue on orange.  Follow the markers thru the park and you should come out (hitting white near the end) at the corner of Ayrault and Aldrich.  Follow Ayrault back the canal and return to the basin.  Distance is 13.9 miles.

Road Route – head out the canal towards Fairport.  Exit onto Ayrault and head east.  Turn right on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  Follow this over to Egypt Victor Rd near Lollypop Farms.  Turn left on Egypt Victor Rd, right on 31, and the left on Aldrich.  Turn left onto Ayrault and follow this all the way back to the basin.  Distance is 12.8 miles.

Road route short cuts – from the Perinton Bike Hike Way – turn left on Mason, then left on Ayrault.  Distance is 11 miles.

Or turn left on Hogan, then left on Ayrault.  Distance is 9.3 miles.

TRAILS ONLY –for those who feel there are too many roads to get to the trails – meet at the Park and Ride – then car pool over with me to the parking lot on Ayrault next to the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  We will make it a loop by following the Hike way over to Mason, then pick up the Crescent Trail over to Broadmoor, the White Brook Nature Trails, then run along the south side of the canal all the way to the Perinton Bike Hike Way and back  to the cars.  8.3 miles or maybe more.

Take the canal towards Pittsford. Take the old train bed to the right just past the flood control gates. Cross over Mitchell and then cross over Rt 31. Continue on the trail through the senior citizen complex. This trail will bring you back to Marsh Rd. Turn left on Marsh, then turn left on Golf Rd. At the tee with Washington, turn right. Turn left on Cranswick. Turn right on Landsdown, then immediately on the left there is a trail – Wynds Woods Trail. Taking right turn options, run until you get to the St. John Fishers Golf Course. Turn around, and continue taking right turn options – this brings you back slightly differently than you went out. Back at Landsdowne, turn right. Take a left on East Ave/Rt 96. At Schoen Place pick up the canal and return to where you started. Distance is 12.4 miles.

If you skip the Wynds Woods Trail, your distance is 11.2 miles.

For 15.6 miles – follow the main route until you are on East Ave. Turn right on French Rd and follow this across Rt. 31 and over to the old Erie Canal trail. Turn left on the trail, and then turn left on the Barge Canal Trail. Take the canal all the way back to the basin.

For 10.1 miles – follow the main route until you get to Washington. Turn left on Washington, then left on East, then left onto the canal and return to the basin.

For 8 miles, stay on the canal until you get to the second time the canal goes under Rt. 31. Turn around and head back to the basin.

From the Park and Ride – turn left on 96, then left on Garnsey,  Turn left on Turk Hill, then right on 31.  Turn right onto the parking area for Indian Hill.  Take whatever trail up the hill you want to up to the top.  Head over to the far side of the big open field and pick up the orange trail over to the pine tree farm.  Stay on orange out towards Turk Hill along the left side of the tree farm – and take the white trail on the right over to Doc Lilac’s Lilac Farm. The trail comes up to a farm lane – turn right, then after you pass a set of beehives, the white trail goes into the woods and up to the Lilacs. Head out  to Turk Hill to Garnsey and back to the basin.  Distance is about 9 miles.

You can increase the distance by turning left on Turk Hill and then picking up the Crescent Trail off Turk Hill on the right after you pass by Beaumont.  Follow the Crescent Trail back to Garnsey then out to the Park and Ride

For mostly roads,

Stay on Rt. 31 beyond the parking area of Indian Hill– turn right on Thayer, right on Steele, cross over Turk into Beaumont, right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, left on Garnsey and back to the basin.  Distance is 10 miles.

For 11.2 – on Turk Hill continue heading north across Rt. 31. Turn right on Ayrault, then pick up the Perinton Bike Hike Way and turn right.  Turn right on Hogan, then left on 31.  Turn right onto Thayer and rejoin the 10 mile route.

For 12.4 – stay on Turk Hill until you get to Pebble Hill Rd.  Turn right on Pebble Hill Rd, then right on Perinton Bike Hike Way and rejoin the 11.2 mile route.

For 14.2 – take Turk Hill to the canal – get on the canal and head east, then cross over the canal to continue on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  Take the Bike Hike Way all the way to Rt. 31.  Turn right on 31, then left on Thayer, rejoining the 10 mile route.

Turn left out of the parking lot. Turn right on Park Rd, then left on Corduroy. Turn right on Woolston, then turn left onto the Auburn Trail. Cross over Fishers Rd, then turn right on Main St. Fishers. Turn left onto Old Dutch. Pick up the Lehigh trail – turn left. Cross over Wangum and Phillips, then take the ramp on the left down to the Auburn Trail. Turn left on the Auburn trail, cross over Phillips, Main St. Fishers, Fishers Rd and Railroad Mills. Retrace your steps back to the parking lot. (Right on Woolston, left on Corduroy, right on Park Rd, left on 96). Distance is 13.2 miles.

For 9 miles, when you get to Main St. Fishers the first time, turn around and retrace your steps.

For 11.8 miles, when on the Lehigh Trail, at the first road crossing, Wangum Rd. turn left, then take a right on Main St. Fishers , then left on the Auburn Trail and return as above.

For 15.3 miles – Stay on the Lehigh Trail to Lehigh Crossing Park and taking any left options until you get to Rt. 251. Turn right on Rt. 251, then pick up the Auburn Trail – turn right and rejoin the main route.
