WHAT IS THE ODR?Around 25 years ago, a runner decided it would be better to run with other people than just himself. He convinced a few people to run with him to save him from the loneliness that accompanies long distance training. Somewhat to his surprise, more and more people started running with this small but dedicated group until a core was formed that became The Oven Door Runners. Today, over 300 people are on the ODR mailing list and sometimes 100+ people show up on Saturday mornings for the weekly training run. There are no dues, no newsletters and no formal events; just one enduring rule - the group starts running at 6:30am Saturday morning from Bushnell's Basin.
DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE FUN?Join us for a run this Saturday. The runs are informal and depart every Saturday morning at 6:30am from the Pontillo's parking lot in Bushnell's Basin. See more information about the
Run Schedule.
BILL HEARNE - LOCAL RUNNING LEGENDBill Hearne was the dedicated runner who founded the ODR. Bill continues to provide a foundation for the Greater Rochester recreational athletic community. He is involved in more activities than we could possibly list here.
WHY THE NAME?Why does the group call itself the Oven Door Runners? The group is not associated with The Oven Door Bakery in any way, but years ago used to stop in for coffee and treats after the run. Given the recalcitrant nature of the group, the name stuck. Today, after the run, the group congregates at
Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters for post run treats.
What's Next?Who knows what the next 25 years will bring, but the last 25 years sure has been fun!
