Routes that feature primarily roads as the running surface

June 25, 2022 – Hill Repeats on Garnsey

This week we are honored to have Tim Mangan joining us from Maine for this week’s run. I have a selection of Tim’s favorite routes for you to choose.

Option 1 – Hill repeats on Garnsey. Run up and down Garnsey until you are tired.

Option 2 – Take the Crescent Trail to Woodcliff and back.

Option 3 – The Linear Park Run

For the Linear Park Run –

Head out the canal path towards Fairport.  Exit the canal onto O’Connor.  Turn left on Whitney.  Whitney will turn into Five Mile Line Rd.  Turn left on Rt. 441, then left into Linear Park.  Cross over Irondequoit Creek and head up the hill.  Turn left on Lincoln Mills, left on Linden then right on Bluff.  Turn left into Eyer Park.  Take the trail over to Midvale – turn left.  Turn right on Baird, left into BOCES, then take the trail around the back.  Turn right on O’Connor and then right on the canal and back to the basin.  Distance is 13.5 miles.

For 11.8 miles, turn left on Linden from Whitney and then left on Bluff Dr., rejoining the main route

For 9.2 miles – on Whitney – turn left on Baird, then left into BOCES, rejoining the main trail

For 7.5 miles – run the canal until you get to O’Connor, then turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

For 16 miles – follow the main route – when you return to the canal turn left and run over to Turk Hill. Turn around and follow the canal back to the basin.

June 18, 2022 – Garnsey Turk Steele

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn left onto Garnsey.  Right on Turk, then left on Steele.  Turn right at the top of Steele and head down Baker.  Turn right on Valentown, then at High St, turn left (yes – turn left).  Turn right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, then right on 96 followed by a left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.  Distance is 12.2 miles.

For 6.6 miles – when on Turk Hill – Stay on Turk Hill past Steele. Turn right on 96 and back to the parking lot.

For 9 miles – at Valentown and High St – turn right on High St, then right on 96 and back to the parking lot.

For 10.7 miles – right on High St, left on 96, then right on Benson and rejoin the 12.2 mile route above.

For 15 miles – From Baker, turn left on Valentown, then right on Egypt-Victor Rd.  Turn right on Aldridge, right on High St, then left on Willowbrook, rejoining the main route.  Then on Fishers Rd, come back thru Powder Mills Park (left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd.)

June 11, 2022 – Mile Square

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn right on Park Rd. Turn left on East. East will change names to Mile Square. Turn left onto the Lehigh Trail, then take the ramp on the right down to the Auburn Trail. Turn left on the Auburn Trail and follow this across Main St. Fishers to Fishers Rd. Turn right on Fishers Rd., then left on 96 and return to the parking lot. Distance is 12.7 miles.

For 7.4 miles – on Mile Square, turn left on Probst, then rejoin the main route by turning left on Fishers Rd.

For 10 miles – on Mile Square, turn left on Main St Fishers, then rejoin the main route by turning left on Fishers Rd.

For 14.9 miles – stay on Mile Square to the end. Turn left on Taylor, then right on Strong. Turn left on Dryer, then left on Willis Hill. Turn left on 251, right on Wangum, left on Main St Fishers then right on Fishers Rd and re-join the main route.

June 4, 2022– Mostly Moseley

Head out the canal towards Fairport. Turn left onto O’Connor, then turn right on Whitney. Turn right on 250. Follow this all the way to 96. Turn right on 96 and return to the basin. Distance is 12.1 miles.

For 10.7 miles – on Moseley – turn right on Garnsey, then right on 96.

For 13.7 miles – on Rt. 96 just before getting back to the Park&Ride – turn left on Fishers Rd., right on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd, left on 96.

For 15.6 miles – on Rt. 96 just before getting back to the Park&Ride – turn left on Fishers Rd., right on Woolston, right on Railroad Mills, right on Park Rd. left on 96.

May 28, 2022 – Cartersville Trail and Knickerbocker Hill

Turn right out of the parking lot. Pick up the Cartersville Trail behind the Marathon Gas Station. Follow the Cartersville trail along the south side of the canal until you are across from Knickerbocker. Turn left onto Knickbocker, and head up the hill. Turn right on Pittsford Mendon Rd. At the 4 way intersection, go straight onto Stone. Tobey and Stone will run together, then go left to stay on Stone. Turn right on Clover, then pick up the canal and head back to the basin. Distance is 11.3 miles.

You can cut the route short by a half-mile (and avoid a large hill) by staying on Tobey over to Clover (10.8 miles)

For 13.7 miles – follow the main route. When you reach the canal- head west on the canal to the JCC – then turn around and return to the basin.

For 8.5 miles – follow the main route until you get to the 4 way intersection with Stone. Turn right and follow this to the canal, then follow the canal back to the basin.

May 7, 2022 – White Brook Nature Trails

According to my notes – we have not run this route since November of 2020!

Trails and Roads –  head out the canal towards Fairport.  Exit onto Ayrault and head east.  Turn right on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  Cross over Hogan, then turn left on Mason.  Turn right on Ranney Dr. When Ranney Dr. crosses over the creek – you can pick up the orange trail, on the left.  Follow the orange trail over to Broadmoor, cross over and continue on Orange.  Follow orange between the ponds, then bear to the right to follow orange over to Aldrich.  Turn right on Aldrich, then left into the White Brook Nature Center.  Turn left in the parking lot to continue on orange.  Follow the orange markers thru the park and you should come out (hitting white near the end) at the corner of Ayrault and Aldrich.  Follow Ayrault back to the canal and return to the basin.  Distance is 13.9 miles.

Road Route – head out the canal towards Fairport.  Exit onto Ayrault and head east.  Turn right on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  Follow this over to Egypt Victor Rd near Lollypop Farms.  Turn left on Egypt Victor Rd, right on 31, and the left on Aldrich.  Turn left onto Ayrault and follow this all the way back to the basin.  Distance is 12.8 miles.

Road route short cuts – from the Perinton Bike Hike Way – turn left on Mason, then left on Ayrault and rejoin the main route.  Distance is 11 miles.

Or turn left on Hogan, then left on Ayrault, rejoin main route.  Distance is 9.3 miles.

TRAILS ONLY –for those who feel there are too many roads to get to the trails – meet at the Park and Ride – then car pool over with me to the parking lot on Ayrault next to the Perinton Bike Hike Way.  We will make it a loop by following the Hike way over to Mason, then pick up the Crescent Trail over to Broadmoor, the White Brook Nature Trails, then run along the south side of the canal all the way to the Perinton Bike Hike Way and back  to the cars.  8.3 miles or maybe more.

April 30, 2022 – A Whole Lot of Turns! Or Trails of Powder Mills Park

Trail option – run the trails of Powder Mills Park until you are tired, then take the roads back to the parking lot

Road option: We ran this route once last summer, and I thought it was time to try it again!

Turn left out of the parking lot.

Turn right on Fishers Rd.

Turn right on Woolston. Turn right on Railroad Mills.

Turn left on Sturbridge, then left on Fall Meadow. This will take you out to East.

Turn right on East.

Turn left on Thornell.

Turn left at the traffic light onto Pittsford Mendon Rd.

Take the first left onto Bromsgrove Hill.

At the end of the cul-de-sac, you will find a pedestrian path – follow this over to Sunrise Park.

At the next intersection take the left to continue on Sunrise Park.

Turn left on Van Voorhis.

When Van Voorhis turns left – take the pedestrian path on the right over to Wren Field Lane.

Turn left on Wild Berry Lane.

Turn right on East St.

East turns into Mile Square.

Turn left onto Probst.

Continue straight on Railroad Mills.

Turn left on Fishers Rd.

Turn left on 96 and return to the parking lot.

There may be a few hills…. Distance is 12 miles

For 14.4 miles – Follow the 12 mile route until you get to Van Voorhis.

Turn right on Van Voorhis.

Turn left on Pittsford Mendon Rd.

Turn left on Smith.

Turn left on Miles Square.

Turn right on Probst and rejoin the 12 miles route.

Road Routes:

Turn left on 96, then left on Garnsey, turn left on Turk Hill, then right on 31.  Turn right on Thayer, right on Steele, cross over Turk into Beaumont, right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, left on Garnsey and back to the basin.  Distance is 10 miles.

For 11.3 – on Turk Hill continue heading north across Rt. 31. Turn right on Ayrault, then turn right on Hogan, then left on 31.  Turn right onto Thayer and rejoin the 10 mile route.

For 13 – stay on Turk Hill until you get to Pebble Hill Rd.  Turn right on Pebble Hill Rd, then right on Bridgewood Dr..then a right on Falling Brook Rd. This will bring you to Ayrault – turn left on Ayrault, then rejoin the 11.3 mile route with a right on Hogan.

Trails – turn right on 96, then right on Kreag. Turn right on 31. Turn right into the Indian Section of the Crescent Trail. Follow the trail over to Turk Hill. Turn left on Turk and pick up the Crescent Trail on the right. Follow the Crescent Trail all the way back to Garnsey. Left on Garnsey and then right on 96 to return to the parking lot. Distance is 9.9 miles. (Your actual distance will vary depending on which trail options you take)

April 16, 2022 – Carterville Trail and Auburn Trail

Turn right out of the parking lot and run 96 towards the Basin. Pick up the Cartersville trail on the right, between Marsh Road and the Marathon gas station, Stay on the trail until you are almost across from Knickerbocker. Cross over 96 and get on the Auburn Trail from the parking area.  Cross over Mill Rd, and then cross over Thornell to stay on the Auburn Trail – this will bring you to a driveway that leads to East St. Cross over East St and stay on the Auburn Trail, picking up the trail behind the power substation. Cross over Railroad Mills to stay on Auburn Trail

For 7.8 miles – turn left Woolston, then left on Corduroy. Turn right on Park Rd, then left on 96 and return to the parking lot

For 9.4 miles – Stay on the Auburn Trail to Probst/Railroad Mills intersection. Turn left and head up the big hill. Turn left on Fishers Rd, then left on Woolston, right on Corduroy,right on Park Rd, then left on 96.

April 9, 2022 – A Few Hills

Let’s run this hilly route this weekend!

Turn left out of the parking lot, and head towards the mall on Rt. 96.

Turn left to go up Woodcliff.

Turn left on Moseley.

Turn right on Garnsey.

Turn right to go up Vineyard Hill.

Turn left on Neuchatel, then left on Beauclaire.

Turn right on Turk Hill. This will bring you back towards the mall.

Turn left into the shopping plaza formerly occupied by Dick’s.

Turn left to go up High Point. This will take you out to Valentown.

Turn left on Valentown.

Turn left to go up Baker.

Turn left to go down Steele.

Turn right to go up Turk.

Turn left to go down Garnsey.

A right turn at 96 returns you to the parking lot.

For 14.4 miles – follow the 12 mile route until you are at the top of Baker. Continue straight on Thayer. At the intersection with Bluhm, turn left to continue on Thayer. Turn left on 31, then left to go up Turk Hill. Turn right on Garnsey and rejoin the 12 mile route.

For 10.6 miles – start with the 12 mile route.

When Woodcliff runs into Moseley, turn right.

Turn left onto Rt. 96.

Then a left to go up High Point (just before Starbucks on 96) and rejoin the 12 mile route.
