December 14, 2019 –Kennelley Park Gazebo Christmas Picture Run

Post-run coffee –Panera Bread past the mall on 96.

Plan to meet at the  Kennelley Park Gazebo at 7:45 am for the 2019 Holiday Picture. The Gazebo is located between the Fairport Library and the canal. Choose your route there depending on how far you can run in an hour and five minutes.

All routes – get on the canal and head towards Fairport.

For 7.1 miles to the Gazebo – go just past Perinton Town Park, turn left onto O’Connor (like you do for the Linear Park Run), then turn right on Whitney. Take Whitney to Turrk Hill, and turn right on Turk Hill. Cross over the canal and then turn right on East Church St. Turn right on Rt. 250/South Main St. Gazebo will be on the left just before the canal.

For 6 miles – stay on the canal past Perinton Town Park. When you get close to the lift bridge that is closed, bear left on to Lift Bridge Lane. Cross over N. Main St (250) and continue on Lift Bridge Lane. Reconnect with the towpath – then exit onto Turk Hill. Cross over the canal and then turn right on East Church St. Turn right on Rt. 250/South Main St. Gazebo will be on the left just before the canal.

For 5 miles to the Gazebo – stay on the canal past Perinton Town Park. When you get close to the lift bridge that is closed, bear left on to Lift Bridge Lane. Cross over N. Main St (250), then turn right on Parker St. Turn right into the parking lot for Packett’s Landing, and exit onto Main St – turning right onto Main St. Just before the lift bridge, you will find the Gazebo on the left.

For 4.5 miles to the Gazebo – exit the canal just before Perinton Town Park, turn right on West Church St. Cross over the canal, turn left at the first street (Nelson St), then turn right on the third street, West Avenue. West Avenue ends at Kennelley Park.

For 5.2 miles back to the car – Turn left onto South Main St (250). Turn right on Ayrault, then turn left into Martha Brown Middle School. Pick up the sidewalk that connects to a cul-de-sac, then turn left on Valley Creek Dr. Cross over Rt. 31, and continue on Blackwatch Trail. Turn left on Dunmow, then right on Garnsey. A right on 96 will return you to the parking lot.

October 26, 2019 – Halloween Picture Run to Powers Farm Market

This week is the annual Halloween Picture Run to Powers Farm Market.

Picture time: 7:45 am at the teepees at Powers Farm Market

For the fast runners – Distance to Powers – 7.6 miles

Turn right out of the parking lot, turn right on Kreag Rd, then left on 31, take the ramp to the canal and follow the canal towards Pittsford. From here, run the traditional route to Powers – exit the canal at Schoen Place, turn right on N. Main St (96), then right on Washington followed by a right on Golf. A left into the parking lot of Powers just before Marsh Rd and you are there.

Get on the canal at the basin – head towards Pittsford. Turn right on N. Main St (96), then right on Washington followed by a right on Golf. A left into the parking lot of Powers just before Marsh Rd and you are there.

May 18, 2019 –The Fishers Run – 40th Anniversary!


Please Note: On this day we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Oven Door Runners. Please join us for a celebration starting at 5 pm at the NY Beer Project located across from the Valentown Museum near Eastview Mall.

In honor of our 40th anniversary, it seems fitting to do our “signature” run – The Fishers Run !

The traditional Fishers Run, from the parking lot is 9.5 miles – Turn left onto 96, right on Park Rd.  Turn left on Corduroy, and then left on Woolston.  Turn right on Fishers Rd, then left on Main St. Fishers.  Turn left on Log Cabin, then right on Lower Fishers, and then left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers Rd, then return thru Powder Mills Park (left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd)  Turn left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

You can skip Powder Mills Park on the way back by staying on Fishers Rd to 96. This shortens any route by 0.5 miles

For 7.5 miles – take 96 directly to Fishers Rd. Left on Main St. Fishers, then left on Log Cabin. Stay on Log Cabin, then left on Benson, right on Fishers Rd, then left on 96.

Starting Location: Parking lot at the end of Culver Rd in Irondequoit

Starting time: 7:00 am

Starting from the Parking lot at the end of Culver Rd.  Turn left out of the parking lot and turn left on the Sea Breeze Expressway. At Titus get on the right side of the Express way and take the sidewalk onto Kane. Turn left onto East Ridge Rd, and then take a right on Bay Shore Blvd.  Next take a right on Bay View Rd and head up the hill.   At the top of the hill turn left to stay on Bay View Rd, then turn left on Glen Haven Rd.  You will make a left to continue on Bay Front S.  Turn right to go up a steep hill – Orchard Park Blvd.  This will bring you to Empire.  Turn left on Empire – go down the hill and up the other side.  Turn left onto Bay Rd.  Follow Bay Rd until you cross over Rt. 104 and then take the first left – Volk Rd.  (This will get you away from the fast moving traffic on Bay Rd.)  Turn right on Dewitt.  At the tee-intersection turn right (Backus Rd) and that will bring you back to Bay Rd.  Turn left on Bay Rd.  Take a left at the tee with Lake Rd.  You have about a mile to go at this point.  Run across the bridge and back to your car.  The distance is 14.2 miles.

Mellow Mug Update – Matt has confirmed that this Saturday, December 8, will be the last day the Mellow Mug is open for business.

We will take our holiday picture this Saturday for one last shot at the coffee shop. The picture will be at 9:15 am, so plan your route accordingly.

This week is the annual Halloween Picture Run to Powers Farm Market. Given that the Marsh Road Bridge is still officially closed (due to open up November 1, by the way) I am going to have to modify the route to Powers. One option was to send runners along the Cartersville Trail on the way there, but I think it is too dark at that time for that to be a good option. So I have come up with several options for you to consider. Each option is just the distance to Powers. I have included one return trip option – you are welcome to modify any route.

I am aiming for  7:45 – 8:00 am for the picture, so chose your distance accordingly

For the faster runners – Distance to Powers – 7.6 miles

Turn right out of the parking lot, turn right on Kreag Rd, then left on 31, take the ramp to the canal and follow the canal towards Pittsford. From here, run the traditional route to Powers – exit the canal at Schoen Place, turn right on N. Main St (96), then right on Washington followed by a right on Golf. A left into the parking lot of Powers just before Marsh Rd and you are there.

Start with the main route. Take the trail connector to Marsh Road just before the flood control gate. Take Marsh Rd to Powers.

Start with the main route. On 31, stay on 31 past the canal all the way to Marsh Road. Be very careful with this option as this road can be busy and not great for runners especially near the 490 intersection. Turn right on Marsh and make your way to Powers.

For the return trip from Powers – 5.2 miles– Take Marsh Road – just before Rt 31 take the Trolley Trail on the right that runs over to the Highlands at Pittsford. Cross over 31 and pick up the Auburn Trail over to Mitchell. Turn right on Mitchell, then left on 96. Pick up the Cartersville Trail between the canal and 96 and return to the basin.

It is time for our annual Halloween Picture Run at Powers Farm Market. We will aim for a picture time of 7:30 am, so plan your speed accordingly!

Head out the canal towards Pittsford – exit onto N. Main St –  Rt. 96 North – turn right.  Take a right on Washington, followed by a right on Golf Ave.  Turn left into Powers Farm Market, just before Marsh Rd.  Gather at the teepees for the picture. Return along Marsh Rd, connecting with the canal just after crossing Rt. 31, and return to the basin.  Distance is 9.1 miles.

For something just a little longer on the return – on Marsh Rd just before getting to 31, take the old trolley trail into the woods on the right.  Follow this thru the Senior Complex – and out to 31.  Cross over 31 and pick up the old train bed trail back to the canal – canal back to the basin.  Distance is 10.2 miles
