January 20, 2018 – Linear Park Run

Head out the canal path towards Fairport.  Exit the canal onto O’Connor.  Turn left on Whitney.  Whitney will turn into Five Mile Line Rd.  Turn left on Rt. 441, then left into Linear Park.  Cross over Irondequoit Creek and head up the hill.  Turn left on Lincoln Mills, left on Linden then right on Bluff.  Turn left into Eyer Park.  Take the trail over to Midvale – turn left.  Turn right on Baird, left into BOCES, then take the trail around the back.  Turn right on O’Connor and then right on the canal and back to the basin.  Distance is 13.5 miles.

For 11.8 miles, turn left on Linden from Whitney and then left on Bluff Dr., rejoining the main route

For 9.2 miles – on Whitney – turn left on Baird, then left into BOCES, rejoining the main trail

For 7.5 miles – run the canal until you get to O’Connor, then turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

For 16 miles – follow the main route – when you return to the canal turn left and run over to Turk Hill. Turn around and follow the canal back to the basin.

The forecast for overnight Friday into mid-day Saturday is not good for travel or running. I am going to break with tradition and recommend everyone sleep in this week. Roads will most likely not be plowed, making both driving and running dangerous.  I am guessing plows will be circulating while we would be running.       

I doubt the canal will be runnable either.

For those who insist on coming out – you are on your own. Be safe!

Given the forecast for the weekend with extreme cold, snow and wind, I thought we should keep it short and try to pick a route that is somewhat sheltered.

Turn left out of the parking lot. Turn right on Park Rd, then left on Corduroy. Turn right on Woolston, then turn left on Railroad Mills. At the tee intersection with Probst, turn left to continue on Railroad Mills. Turn left on Fishers Rd, then left on Woolston.

For 6.5 miles – turn right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd then left on 96 and return to the parking lot.

For 8.5 miles – stay on Woolston. Turn right on Railroad Mills, then right on Park Rd, then a left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

If you want something longer- you can run around the Corduroy-Woolston-Railroad Mills-Park Rd block again – it adds 3 miles.

Short Route – Turn left out of the parking lot. Turn right on Park Rd and follow to the end. Turn right on East, then left on Thornell. Turn left at the stop light – Pittsford Mendon Rd. Turn left on Van Voorhis. Turn left on East, then right on Thornell and return to the basin. Distance is 7.5 miles.

For 10.7 miles – start with the short route. On Pittsford Mendon Rd go past Van Voorhis. Turn left on Cole Rd, then left on Mile Square, rejoining the short route.

Holiday Picture after the run! Plan on 9:15 am for the picture!

The traditional Fishers Run, from the parking lot is 9.5 miles – Turn left onto 96, right on Park Rd.  Turn left on Corduroy, and then left on Woolston.  Turn right on Fishers Rd, then left on Main St. Fishers.  Turn left on Log Cabin, then right on Lower Fishers, and then left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers Rd, then return thru Powder Mills Park (left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd)  Turn left on 96 and back to the parking lot.

Note: You can skip the Lower Fishers option by staying on Log Cabin. This shortens any route by 1 mile.

You can skip Powder Mills Park on the way back by staying on Fishers Rd to 96. This shortens any route by 0.6 miles

For 7.5 miles – take 96 directly to Fishers Rd. Left on Main St. Fishers, then left on Log Cabin. Stay on Log Cabin, then left on Benson, right on Fishers Rd, then left on 96

For 12.5 miles – start with the standard route. At Main St. Fishers, turn right, then take a left on Old Dutch. Turn left on 251, left on Wangum, then right on Main St Fishers, and rejoin the standard route.

For 16 miles – (Run this at your own risk! You may not get back in time for the picture!) follow the 12.5 mile route. When on 251, add a loop by turning right on Strong, left on Dryer, left on Willis Hill, left on 251, then rejoin the 12.5 mile route when you turn right on Wangum.

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn left onto Garnsey.  Right on Turk, then left on Steele.  Turn right at the top of Steele and head down Baker.  Turn right on Valentown, then at High St, turn left (yes – turn left).  Turn right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, then right on 96 followed by a left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.  Distance is 12.2 miles.

For 6.6 miles – when on Turk Hill – Stay on Turk Hill past Steele. Turn right on 96 and back to the parking lot.

For 9.7 miles and some trails – on Valentown, before you get to High St, look for a new road named Fernwood Trail on the right. Take Fernwood Trail – it will turn into High Point Drive – pick up the Seneca Trail on the right. Follow the Seneca Trail over to Turk Hill, and continue on the Seneca Trail which runs behind the Michaels Plaza. This trail will take you out to LaSalle Parkway. Then pick up 96 and head back to the parking lot.

This week let’s run into the village of Fairport to see how they are decked out for the holidays!

All routes head out the canal towards Fairport.

For 7 miles – turn around at Perinton Town Park and return to the parking lot.

Everyone else – exit the canal onto W. Church St where a right takes you into the village. Turn left onto Main St, and cross over the canal.

For 9 miles – turn left onto the canal trail and return to the parking lot.

Everyone else – turn right on the canal trail. Go past Turk Hill and take the pedestrian bridge over the canal and continue on the Perinton Bike Hike Way.

For 10.5 miles – turn right on Ayrault and return to the canal and then back to the basin

For 12.5 miles – stay on the Bike Hike Way to Hogan. Turn right on Hogan, then right on 31. Turn right on Turk Hill, then left on Ayrault. Then take the canal back to the basin.

All routes – start by turning left out of the parking lot. Then turn right on Park Rd, right on East, left on Thornell and then a right on Mill. Turn left on East, then left on 96.

For 6.4 miles – turn right on 96 and follow this back to the parking lot.

For 7.9 miles – stay on 96 past Knickerbocker. Turn right on Mitchell, then turn right on the old train bed (Auburn Trail). Turn left on the canal and return to the basin

For 9.4 miles – stay on 96 into Pittsford. Turn right on S. Main St, then turn right on State St. (Rt. 31). Pick up the canal and return to the basin.

For 10.7 miles – from 96, turn left onto Knickerbocker Rd and head up the hill. Turn right onto Mendon Rd, then at the stoplight turn right. Go into the village of Pittsford, turn right on 31 – State St. At the bridge over the canal- pick up the canal and take the canal back to the basin.

For 13.2 miles – from 96, turn left onto Knickerbocker Rd and head up the hill. Turn right onto Mendon Rd, then at the stoplight go straight onto Stone. Stay on Stone (bear left away from Tobey). Turn right on Clover, then at Jefferson/Rt 252 turn right. Turn left onto S. Main St. Go into the village of Pittsford, turn right on 31 – State St. At the bridge over the canal- pick up the canal and take the canal back to the basin.

I was unable to find a Turkey Farm within range of the basin, so instead let’s go for the next best thing and Run to the Buffalos!

Turn left out of the parking lot. Turn right on Fishers Rd., then turn right on Railroad Mills. Go straight to continue on Probst. Turn left on Mile Square, then turn right on Smith. Cross over Mendon Rd, then cross over W. Bloomfield. Buffalo farm will be on the right. Continue on Smith, then turn right on Mendon Center Rd. Turn right on Canfield, then left on W. Bloomfield followed by a right to continue on Canfield. Turn left on Mendon Rd, then right on Van Voorhis. Turn left on East, then right on Thornell. A right on 96 brings you back to the parking lot. Distance is 13.9 miles.

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn right on Park Rd. Turn left on East. East will change names to Mile Square. Turn left onto the Lehigh Trail, then take the ramp on the right down to the Auburn Trail. Turn left on the Auburn Trail and follow this across Main St. Fishers to Fishers Rd. Turn right on Fishers Rd., then left on 96 and return to the parking lot. Distance is 12.7 miles.
