May 29, 2021 – Canal and Trails into Pittsford

This week’s route involves a series of trails that intersect the canal path towards Pittsford. These trails are well drained and should not be a problem with all the rain we are forecast to get on Friday.

Head out the canal towards Pittsford. When you get to the soccer fields – turn right along a grassy path bordering the soccer fields on the right. This will lead to a gravel pathway that will circle around the soccer fields are return you to the canal just past the town park. Continue on the canal towards Pittsford.

After you cross the Duck Hunt Bridge, bear right onto the Auburn trail. Cross over Mitchell and continue on the Auburn Trail. Turn right at the end and cross over Rt. 31. Turn right on the walkway that parallels Rt.31 and head back towards Marsh Rd. Turn left on Marsh Rd, then turn right onto the old Trolley Bed Trail. This will take you over thru the Highlands at Pittsford. The trail will lead you back to 31.Cross over 31 and head under the power lines back to the canal. Turn right on the canal and again head towards Pittsford.

Pass by the Town Highway Department Garage. There is a new trail on the right after passing the train trestle and before you reach Rt. 31 (the second time rt. 31 crosses the canal). Take this trail – it will lead over to the Auburn Trail. Turn right on the Auburn Trail, and then reconnect with the canal.

Head back towards the basin on the canal. On the return trip, turn left under the power lines to pick up the Auburn Trail, turn right, cross back over Mitchell and continue back to the canal path. Take the trail loop back around the soccer fields, then continue on the canal back to the basin and then to the parking lot.

This distance is 10.8 miles.

For 14.5 miles – when you reach the Auburn Trail after running thru the new trail from the canal, turn left on the Auburn Trail – and proceed like it is a Springhouse Run – stay on the Auburn Trail until you are across from the Birdhouse Shop, cross over 31 and pick up the old Erie Canal Trail that runs behind Wegmans, then turn left on the Barge Canal Trail. Take all the side trails that the main route follows as well.

May 22, 2021 – Indian Hill Section of the Crescent Trail OR Ayrault and Thayer

Trails – Head out the canal towards Fairport. Exit the canal onto Rt.31 heading east. Turn right into the Indian Section of the Crescent Trail. Follow the trail over to Turk Hill. Turn right on Turk, left on Garnsey and then right on 96 to return to the parking lot. Distance is 9.3 miles.

For Roads – Head out the canal towards Fairport. Exit onto Ayrault and turn right, heading east on Ayrault.

For 7.6 miles – Turn right on Turk Hill, right on Garnsey then right on 96.

For 9.0 miles – Turn right on Hogan, right on 31, left on Turk Hill. Right on Garnsey will bring you back to 96 – turn right.

For 10.8 miles – Turn right on Hogan, left on 31 and then right on Thayer. At Bluhm, turn right to continue on Thayer. Turn right on Steele, cross over Turk to continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, then left on Garnsey, and right on 96.

For 11.6 miles – Turn right on Mason, right on 31 and then left on Thayer. At Bluhm, turn right to continue on Thayer. Turn right on Steele, cross over Turk to continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, then left on Garnsey, and right on 96.

For 13.1 miles – Take Ayrault to the end, turn right on Aldrich. Turn right on 31, and then left on Thayer. At Bluhm, turn right to continue on Thayer. Turn right on Steele, cross over Turk to continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, then left on Garnsey, and right on 96.

For 14.3 miles – when on the canal – get off on Rt. 31 and turn left, heading west on 31. Turn right on Ayrault and run the entire length of Ayrault. Turn right on Aldrich. Turn right on 31, and then left on Thayer. At Bluhm, turn right to continue on Thayer. Turn right on Steele, cross over Turk to continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, right on Vineyard Hill, then left on Garnsey, and right on 96.

May 15, 2021 – Crescent Trail or Garnsey-Turk-Steele

Post-run coffee – If the weather is good – bring your own refreshments and meet along the canal behind the 7 Story Brewery

Crescent Trail – Turn right out of the parking lot, then right on Kreag Rd. Pick up the Crescent Trail behind the church on the right. Take the Crescent Trail over to Garnsey, cross over and continue on the trail. When you are half tired, turn around and return to the start.

Road Routes – Garnsey Turk Steele

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn left onto Garnsey.  Right on Turk, then left on Steele.  Turn right at the top of Steele and head down Baker.  Turn right on Valentown, then at High St, turn left (yes – turn left).  Turn right on Willowbrook, right on Rowley, then right on 96 followed by a left on Benson.  Turn right on Fishers, then left on 96 and back to the parking lot.  Distance is 12.2 miles.

For 6.6 miles – when on Turk Hill – Stay on Turk Hill past Steele. Turn right on 96 and back to the parking lot.

For 15 miles – From Baker, turn left on Valentown, then right on Egypt-Victor Rd.  Turn right on Aldridge, right on High St, then left on Willowbrook, rejoining the main route.  Then on Fishers Rd, come back thru Powder Mills Park (left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd.)

May 8, 2021 – Linear Park Run

Head out the canal path towards Fairport.  Exit the canal onto O’Connor.  Turn left on Whitney.  Whitney will turn into Five Mile Line Rd.  Turn left on Rt. 441, then left into Linear Park.  Cross over Irondequoit Creek and head up the hill.  Turn left on Lincoln Mills, left on Linden then right on Bluff.  Turn left into Eyer Park.  Take the trail over to Midvale – turn left.  Turn right on Baird, left into BOCES, then take the trail around the back.  Turn right on O’Connor and then right on the canal and back to the basin.  Distance is 13.5 miles.

For 11.8 miles, turn left on Linden from Whitney and then left on Bluff Dr., rejoining the main route

For 9.2 miles – on Whitney – turn left on Baird, then left into BOCES, rejoining the main trail

For 7.5 miles – run the canal until you get to O’Connor, then turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

For 16 miles – follow the main route – when you return to the canal turn left and run over to Turk Hill. Turn around and follow the canal back to the basin.
