January 28, 2017 – The Freezeroo Course

This week you have your choice of running the new Freezeroo Course out in Victor or parts of last year’s Freezeroo course and the Hearne Freezeroo Course from the Basin.

In honor of this week’s Freezeroo, we will run the

From the parking lot, turn left onto 96, then turn right on Park Rd. Turn left on Corduroy, then right on Woolston. Turn right on Railroad Mills, then turn left on Old Forge Lane. Take the first left onto Deer Creek Rd.  This will loop around and back to Old Forge. Turn right on Old Forge Lane, bringing you back to the first intersection. Take the other direction on Deer Creek by turning left.  Deer Creek will change names to Wandering Trail. Follow this to the end and turn around in the cul-de-sac. Retrace your route back to Old Forge Lane, turn left and back to Railroad Mills. Turn left, then take a left onto Sturbridge Lane. Take the next left onto Fall Meadow. Take this upto East, then turn around and return all the way to Railroad Mills. Turn left on Railroad Mills, then right on Park Rd. Return to 96, turn left and return to the parking lot. Distance is 8.6 miles.

For those with more time and wanting a longer distance, I propose a route that combines the Bill Hearne Freezeroo Course with the 2016 Freezeroo Course.

Follow the new Freezeroo Course until you are at the intersection of Railroad Mills and Park Rd. Turn left on Park Rd., then left on East. Turn left on Probst, then take a left on Miles Cutting. Turn right on Railroad Mills, then at the t-intersection, turn left to continue on Railroad Mills. Turn left on Fishers Rd, left on Woolston, right on Corduroy, right on Park Rd and left on 96 and back to the parking lot. Distance is 13.4 miles

(Or skip the trip thru Powder Mill Park by staying on Fishers Rd, turn left on 96 and back to the parking lot for  12.8 miles)

And for those wanting a long run…..

Follow the combined new/old Freezeroo Course. At the top of Railroad Mills, turn right on Fishers Rd, then left on Main St Fishers. Turn left on Log Cabin, left on Benson and right on Fishers Rd. Turn left on 96 and return to the parking lot. Distance is 15.8 miles.

January 21, 2017 – Springhouse Run

I hope you are all enjoying the mild winter – with the lack of snow, I thought we could hit a few trails –

Head out the canal towards Pittsford. In the village, go past the railroad trestle and turn right into the Town Highway Department drive. Pick up the trail on the left that will connect over to the Auburn Trail. Cross over French and follow the trail until you are across the street from the Springhouse Commons. Cross over 31 and pick up the old Erie Canal Trail that runs behind Wegmans. Follow this back across French Rd and connect back with the Barge Canal, and follow the canal all the way back to the Basin. Distance is 11.6 miles.

For around 8 miles, stay on the canal to the 2nd time Rt 31 crosses the canal, turn around and retrace your steps.

For 14.8 miles, follow the standard route. When the Old Erie Canal reconnects with the Barge Canal, turn right and run over to the JCC. Turn around and run all the way back to the basin along the towpath.

Turn left out of the parking lot, then turn right on Fishers Rd. Turn left on Benson and follow this all the way to 96. Turn right on 96, then left on Rowley, then left on Willowbrook. Turn left on High St, then a right on Eleanor. Turn right on Gillis, then turn left on Cobble Creek Rd. Follow Cobble Creek Rd over to Egypt-Victor Rd, and turn left.  Turn left on Valentown, then right on Baker. Turn left on Steele, cross over Turk and continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, then right on Vineyard Hill. Turn left on Garnsey and then a right on 96 brings you back to the parking lot. Distance is 13.4 miles.

For 7.5 miles – when you get to Benson and 96, turn left on 96 and run this back to the parking lot

For 9.4 miles – when you get to High St, stay on High St back to 96. Right on 96 and return to the parking lot

For 12.1 miles – from High St. turn right on Valentown, then left on Baker. Turn left on Steele, cross over Turk and continue on Beauclaire. Turn right on Neuchatel, then right on Vineyard Hill. Turn left on Garnsey and then a right on 96 brings you back to the parking lot.

January 7, 2017 – Linear Park Run

Head out the canal path towards Fairport.  Exit the canal onto O’Connor.  Turn left on Whitney.  Whitney will turn into Five Mile Line Rd.  Turn left on Rt. 441, then left into Linear Park.  Cross over Irondequoit Creek and head up the hill.  Turn left on Lincoln Mills, left on Linden then right on Bluff.  Turn left into Eyer Park.  Take the trail over to Midvale – turn left.  Turn right on Baird, left into BOCES, then take the trail around the back.  Turn right on O’Connor and then right on the canal and back to the basin.  Distance is 13.5 miles.

For 11.8 miles, turn left on Linden from Whitney and then left on Bluff Dr., rejoining the main route

For 9.2 miles – on Whitney – turn left on Baird, then left into BOCES, rejoining the main trail

For 7.5 miles – run the canal until you get to O’Connor, then turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

For 16 miles – follow the main route – when you return to the canal turn left and run over to Turk Hill. Turn around and follow the canal back to the basin.

For a longer option with trails – on Whitney at Linden – go under the bridge along the creek to pick up the Linear Park Trail.  Run this all the way down to Panorama Plaza.  Return back up to Linear Park and then follow the usual route back.  Distance is 15.3 miles.
